Most people will recognize the name Chicken Soup from the much-loved series of books ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’. My bookshelf is scattered with various titles from the collection.

We were thrilled to be invited to try the product and share our honest review and a giveaway, with our followers.
Before agreeing to do so, however, I needed to do my research.
We switched to a completely raw diet a few years ago due to allergies and sensitivities. I believe it is good to change things up now and then, however, I would not do so with just any product.
I visited the company website and was able to find a Pet Valu in my area that stocks Chicken Soup for the Soul Dog Food. I was happy to see Protein is First Few Ingredients listed and the product does not contain Corn, Wheat, Soy, Artificial Colours or Flavors, By-Product Meals or Synthetic Preservatives or Fillers.

My dogs are all under thirty pounds, so I chose the Adult Dog Small Bites. It’s made with the same natural ingredients as the Adult formula, just in a smaller kibble for smaller breeds.

Since I will be transitioning Henry, Reese, and Jack onto a new product, I like that I can use the small kibble as treats and training incentives while their systems adjust.

Unless your dog has an iron-gut, it is essential to transition dogs to a new food product gradually. Since we have autoimmune issues and allergies, I will be introducing the kibble progressively.
I believe there is a place for both kibble and raw food – just not mixed in the same meal. Why? Dry kibble takes longer to digest and can cause tummy upset when mixed with raw food.
I also like the price point of replacing one raw meal with kibble and the benefit the crunchy kibble has of removing tartar from teeth.

Our dinner routine is to eat our meal and then put out Dexter’s wet food with his glucosamine
My pup always has food out, at dinner she just gets to sit by our feet while we eat if she deosn’t want to eat.
Our dog is diabetic, a senior (and blind) He has to eat smaller meals throughout he day. One of his meals is right before our dinnertime, he eats his meal. He is currently having kibble mixed with venison. The meats change with what I have available. Luckily we have friends who hunt. Since being on a higher protein mix his diabetes has done very well.
These are beautiful photos! Mishu eats “with’ her family once a week on Friday night. That’s when she knows to wait patiently for the salmon skin to be deposited into her bowl!
I’ve seen that brand in the stores but have never tried it before, good to see your dogs are enjoying it. I like the idea of using them as treats during the transition. It’s interesting you liked the product enough to cut back on raw to feed dry, must be really good quality.

I couldn’t agree more – ingredients are so important in the food we choose to feed our pets. I have changed our dog’s food several times and love to use the new food as treats as a way of introducing it. Fortunately for me, she loves to eat, so even kibble is often a great reward!

Ah, discrimination based on location again, huh? LOL Sounds good. Cookie is on raw, though, I think she’d look funny at a “bowl of cereal.”
Your dogs are so cute! The name of the product is cute too. My Bella has a sensitive stomach so changing her diet would be a bit difficult. I have not seen the brand in my local stores but have seen it online if they offer samples I would give it a try.
We feed our dogs raw but if we were to change their diet, I would spend a lot of time researching the product, what’s in it and where it is made. For me it is very important what I feed our dogs.
I haven’t tried this food yet, but I’d love to. I’m so sorry I missed the contest! My bookshelves are also scattered with many titles from the book series! I love them, especially the pet ones! I’ve given them as gifts and kept many titles for myself. That is so interesting that you can’t feed raw and kibble together – I wasn’t aware of that. Good to know, thanks.

I like using kibble as treats too. A little bonus nutrition. And since they don’t get it very often the cats get crazy when I get samples and share it out. They like the Chicken Soup kibble.

This looks tasty for an adult dog to enjoy. We use dental kibble as treats for our cats, so we do teeth cleaning AND feeding LOL! I read one of the books once, they are so lovely and positive.

Glad you are transitioning slowly. When reading the forums, someone posted studies (forgive me for not remembering who) that showed there is very little lag time in digesting raw and kibble. My dog has his choice of raw, home-cooked and high quality kibble. He is pretty good at letting me know what he wants and when…lol
I used to be able to feed Truffle anything prior to her bladder stone surgery. She is supposed to eat prescription food now, but she’s not eating too much of it. Brule is my finicky eater and she prefers cable over wet food. I am still trying to transition her to more wet.

Giving it as treats to ease the transition is a good idea. Sometimes I forget that we’re low on food and transition is a speedier process than it should be.
